Josh, up state new york, and anything heading up into the north in Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire is what we and probably most folk call Gods country. You have it all there from lakes, rivers, ski areas if that is your bag and every thing in between. In Maine you have the choice of the ocean or you can still live in the damn woods and run naked all day if you want and the only thing that will see you is what ever wildlife is in the area.

Maine Coast is fantastic but it doesn't draw the people that the beaches/coast further south does because the water is so damn cold. It is known more for it's fishing/shell fishing and sights than it is for it's warm sandy beaches.

I could go on for ever but I'm sure there are spots like that all over the States. My Son and Daughter both took a trip to the mountains of Colorado years back before they each got married. When they got back they both were ready to pack up and move there for good. I had other people that I knew that moved to Jackson Hole WY and they only come back if they have to. He said it was Heaven to them. They also had no kids and no intentions of having any so it worked great for them...

But...There is a place here in Connecticut in a town called New Hartford that has the most beautiful sight you will see as well. It is two good size lakes both State owned one right below the other. The upper lake is a reservoir and the lower one is for recreation but is VERY strictly controlled. There is a paved road that goes right between the lakes that has a good sized spot to pull over a check it out. I have seen places as nice but NEVER better looking than that spot but that is IMO. And...then the ocean...lol!
