'Ralph said yesterday that Gore was the sole reason he did not win.' - #reply-14766375

... so there is that to it -g- .... really there wasn't much of a choice in that election ... things somewhat more defined now, a few new items, occupation of Iraq, ballooning deficit, etc

Bilow on FADG was keeping up pretty well on mobilisation/demob figures during that time, i think major troop movements were a little later than you suggest here, a lot of materiel was moved in first of course ... in any case, all this too could have been seen as bargaining chips, for getting together an alliance to resolve the issue ... people generally could not have known at that time just how dictatorial and intransigent the Bush admin would be, to what degree they would alienate natural allies ..... and of course, most accepted their take on WMDs ... right down to knowing where they were, and on how many minutes notice they could be launched, lol .... ah, the rich tapestry of life, eh ..... cheers

The army of a free country has a great responsibility: the right to use force, but not as an instrument of compulsion and brute conquest--as the armies of other countries have done in their histories--only as an instrument of a free nation's self-defense, which means: the defense of a man's individual rights. The principle of using force only in retaliation against those who initiate its use, is the principle of subordinating might to right. The highest integrity and sense of honor are required for such a task. No other army in the world has achieved it. You have.

Republicans on the run and regrouping in the Red States.

Ky. Senator Withdraws From GOP Primary

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- A Republican state senator withdrew her candidacy for a Kentucky congressional seat Thursday after losing a special election for that same office to Democrat Ben Chandler.

Alice Forgy Kerr threw her support to state Sen. Tom Buford, one of three remaining GOP candidates in the May primary.

Kerr, of Lexington, lost to Chandler by 12 percentage points in Tuesday's election in the central Kentucky district that includes Lexington and the state capital of Frankfort.

The U.S. House seat previously was held by Republican Ernie Fletcher, who resigned in December upon being sworn in as governor. Chandler will serve the rest of Fletcher's term. He would have to win a Democratic primary and then the fall general election for a full two-year term of his own.

Chandler's primary opponent is Fayette County Attorney Margaret Kannensohn.

Buford faces Don Swarthout and Bryan Coffman, both of Lexington, in the GOP primary.
