Steve, I can actually agree with you that a "wealth tax" (instead of an income tax) has some merit to it. One thing I find attractive about it is that it doesn't heavily tax "high earners" who are STRIVING to be wealthy, but aren't there yet. There are some practical issues to consider, though. If a wealthy person has a lot of illiquid assets, would they be forced to liquidate them in order to pay the annual "wealth tax"? There is also an issue of how do you obtain a "fair market value" for some illiquid assets.

Don't you understand that payroll taxes have only an incidental relationship to the taxes that are actually owed each April 15? They are "prepayments".

Medicare has no cap, and SS is an entitlement program, not a tax. Also matched by the employers (another tax on business). I was talking about Fed tax, and the FACT that the top 1% of earners paying 36% of FED TAXES is enough. Now make your argument why it is not. Without talking about other subjects. " How can we not talk about them when talking about taxes?" I just explained that. It's an entitlement program where the recipient pitches in. Offensive (that they should chip in) to you lefties to be sure, but that is tough. "It's people like you who refuse to talk about the lower income workers when you pretend they pay no taxes" I don't pretend nothing dude. I talk about ALL THE FACTS. We were talking FED INCOME TAXES. If you want a law to make the SS tax go to full salary, then make that case. That will increase the taxes on the well to do. And you guys do think they are a spigit to be tapped instead of a source to be appreciated. Fine. Don't agree with you, but make your argument what it is. Don't confuse the stupid folk with your twisted arguments. "They're getting reamed, and of all of us they can least afford it." This is a LIE by the left to get votes. They pay zero in taxes, and they contribute ONE HALF of their future SS payments. You are being REALLY DISHONEST with your position imo. To make it look like the lower guy pays more taxes is RIDICULOUS. I didn't agree with you before, but I thought you were smart at least. Just a tool of the dem party to pit one class against the other. This is an entitlement program. Wipe it out, and I am fine. Let people save the 7 1/2% themselves and they will do much, much better. But you "elitists" think the public is TOO STUPID to do that. Let's ELIMINATE SS, and then the lower 30% will pay ZERO taxes. But you will STILL say that they deserve the money someone else earned. And that ZERO percent is too high. "The middle class who are getting screwed would pay less" Why not back up this LIE. How are we getting screwed. Tell me oh smart one how me and my family are getting screwed living in the greatest nation on earth. You guys disgust me. Socialism doesn't work. It is easily verifiable that the rich guys pay the lion's share of the taxes, and you greedy bastards want more of their blood. That is NOT what made America great, nor will free handouts encourage some on the lower end to do better for themselves, which is the only way they can lead satisfying lives. You want to keep them there with your class warfare so they will vote for your socialist, anti-American heros.
