When did I say that? You've got me mixed up with someone else.

OK. You get a pass. Now spread the word among your buddies. Because a lot of them are spreading just that story. The way I remember this, it started decades ago. And when cheap long distance communications and transportation was achieved, something like the current problems were inevitable. And it's not just the US. Those Indians and Chinese are nailing Europe too.

You do understand its typical that the incumbent gets blamed fairly or unfairly for all of the current problems. And when you have an incumbent hated as much as Bush is by some people, they will work doubly hard at blaming him.

I suspect he's capable of doing very little.

Fair enough. Presidents have a **** of a lot less to do with the course of the economy than they or the public like to believe. Although since they mare so willing to take credit for the good times (a la Clinton), it does seem fair that they should get blamed for bad (and, were the boom still booming, I have absolutely no doubt Bush would be crowing and claiming credit).

Yes, that's true to a degree. Nonetheless, its growing clearer and clearer that tax cuts were not the econ. panacea Bush claimed they were when he proposed them.

BTW, I don't think you have to be a bloody genius to be a decent President. Some of the smartest have been some of the worst. Wilson certainly was intelligent- -and then led the nation into WW1 after swearing he wouldn't. Carter was smart- -and a total disaster.

Sorry, big guy, but I don't want to be smarter than the president. We have over 260 million people in this country. I would want the president to rank in the top ten percent in terms of quality including intellectual prowess.
