behind an Edwards nomination, very much the South.

Wrong. Al Gore from Tennessee did not win the Southeren states who analysts said he would win, even his home state of Tennessee.

I've thought along your same lines. Like you I think either candidate can take Bush. If Edwards is the nominee (which I don't expect)- then he would need a VP which is someone with a background of an elder statesman-type. Gephardt is one of these elder statesman guys but his message is too close to Edwards. Then, while choosing a VP, tout Clark or someone with military background as his military advisor during the campaign. So you have all the bases covered- military and lack of experience which are Edwards 2 weaknesses.

I think Kerry can win some states in the south also though. The carolinas especially and maybe tennessee. The economy is getting worse not better.

Edwards is still a political virgin. He is not battle tested. Almost no one has attacked Edwards on any level yet. The press hasn't looked into his past, the GOP hasn't done anything but call him a "trial lawyer" and Kerry hasn't attacked Edwards except to say he's not very experienced. In fact Kerry is ignoring Edwards.

Kerry is going to win easily ebcause there is no noticeable sign of dissatisfaction amongst Democrats. Dems general love Kery and have already picked him in all parts of the country including the south. Even in SC Kerry did well.
