Yep, I think Pebble picking will become more important going forward. My favorite stocks like ARMHY, ELAN, OVTI are starting to get mighty expensive (still think QCOM is somewhat of a bargain here), and the market is starting to fully value or overvalue many techs. RMBS huge jump, GMST? May still have much room to run.

Given this, the easy money may be over for now in the known names and it is time to look for more Shiny pebbles. I know ELAN is not the sort of company for this board, but it was a great Shiny Pebble as a drug stock, OVTI another. But I think we need to develop some more.

There are so many new industries coming to the forefront with Tornadoes starting to brew everywhere. I only wish I had more time to look further.

I do think TFM gives excellent instructions on how to find these Shiny Pebbles. Read through IBD, Wall Street Journal, CNET, ZDNET, Wireless world, networking publications, software publications, materials science newsletters, et al. Just make it a habit and you will see new market opportunities mentioned and candidates within those markets. It may take years to develop some of these and some may already be in the process (such as OVTI).

But that is the way to go I think. NPI board on the Fool comes up with some nice Shiny Pebble candidates from time to time. OVTI was one such, ELAN I brought to the boards attention. ARMHY was prominently brought forward even as it fell under $2, SONS was positively discussed at $3 and below. Just takes time and digging. Presently I think VoIP is one huge area.

But I think if you make it systematic, and of course share, new Shiny Pebbles can be had and examined. But good ones only come along every so often so it takes patients and a weeding process. Right now my time is so strapped I've had to give up my more systematic approach that I had begun. Hopefully in the future I can get back to it. Paid off quite nicely holding just a few of the Pebbles during the last year or two.
