I know you called me dumb, and pretty sure of the latter, but that may have been a different poster who feels the rich should get soaked for more taxes. Whether you love them or hate them, I get the distinct impression that there is some contempt for them, because they NEVER GIVE ENOUGH to the folks on the left. Even if it is way more than the guys doing the complaining. "That means the poor are paying a higher rate than the rich" This is where your math (or theory) falls apart. You say the guys paying just 7.625% for FICA are already paying too much. So you want to raise their taxes? But you seem to be saying they pay too much now. Which is it? You use just Fed Income tax, then you mix in FICA when it suits your "argument" (your last post said Fed Income tax only). Why not just say what your point is? If it is eliminate FICA and charge 10% on INCOME across the board, I would support you in a heartbeat. BUT NO POLITICIANS ARE FOR THIS. Particularly the dems. So what is your REAL tax argument. What do you think is fair? Again, I am fully for wiping out FICA, let people save for their own future, and a flat 10% for all income. But under the current code, to charge ZERO percent Fed Income tax for the bottom 30% or so, and 35% for the top 5% or so, YOU HAVE TO ADMIT that our tax code is progressive. If you ONLY COUNT FICA, then I agree that it is recessive. SS shuts down at $87,700 (I think) and Medicare goes on to infinity. But my view again, is that this is an entitlement program that you have to chip in to. Do you want to abolish it? If so, we are on the same page. Especially with a 10% FLAT RATE.
