If the movie has material in it that doesn't come from the Gospels, but from some nun's vision a century or few ago, that would bother me.

It wouldn't bother me as a Catholic, because part of our faith is that miracles and divinely inspired visions keep occurring, so a lot of the Catholic faith is not found in the Bible. Which seems to drive Protestants crazy, especially fundamentalist Protestants.

I do think it would detract from the universality of the message. An awful lot of Protestants are planning on seeing the film, especially fundamentalists and members of what my husband calls "super churches," churches with thousands of members.

If Gibson strikes one single note that's contary to the Gospels people like them (and you) will probably object and be turned off.
