uw,

Not like you to make it quite so personal.

I'll try harder in the future to make my posts more personal. Thanks for that reminder.

After it was too late to edit my post, I realized I accidentally forgot to explain one of the reasons I thank you for the compliment that my post was personal. It's good to know that you appreciate that I'm following instructions in the thread header: The purpose of this thread is to make irreverent comments about Gorilla & King investing and each other.

If you were to accuse me of not being irreverent enough, I would plead guilty as charged.

Mike,
I did not expect a response, and I certainly did not expect one I could agree with, but I do.

I agree IDs post was total BS.
I agree parts of mine were leaning that way too.
I agree awards are meaningless, unless of course you are on active duty and get promotion points, or can use them to get out of combat duty like Kerry did.

My awards are in a box in the garage...I used to keep them in my home office at my kids' requests...but they too no longer mention them. Unlike Kerry, I certainly would not expect to receive civilian job consideration because of war duty.

I respect everyone's military service to America equally. Unlike Kerry and Clark, I do not believe that any one individual's military service is more valuable to our freedom than anyone else's. America needs all of us to serve in some capacity. Selection for combat duty is something very few (except silver-spooners like Gore and Kerry) can have any control over. Combat awards come from opportunities and BS. Every soldier who has been there knows that. I agree with you my 13 combat awards have zero value and are meaningless...But so are Kerry's and that was my point.
I expect no consideration from you because I have them...but Kerry does.

The medals do not even make good bar talk. I did not bring up the awards issue...ID did. I do believe your military service and mine were a valuable contribution to America... An equally valuable contribution.

Kerry views himself as a unique, awesome and heroic individual because he has a medal...I view all who have served in our armed forces as heroes. A walk through Gettysburg followed by another through Arlington would be good for Kerry. Might help him find a bit of humility.

I have no idea what would be good for ID.

Nice that you are enjoying the "LET"S ROLL" sweatshirt. I have a new auto bumper sticker you might also like. It is white letters on a red background that says,
GIVE WAR A CHANCE. May do sweatshirts again for Christmas.

I have retired, finished building a new home and am moving to the back country of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Washington and Oregon in April. Ya'll come visit. The food is wholesome and healthy. The micro-brews are awesome. The people are friendly and always helpful...not mention patriotic. The fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, and hunting are unbelievable. Crime and traffic are virtually non-existent. Nobody locks their cars or homes in our new town. The locals prefer Jack Black to Opus One (You will get over that)...but you will find yourself always welcomed, always assisted and always invited, because you have served America honorably.
