Is this new? WR Hambrecht report dated Jan 5th. Date for CES was Jan 8-11. Looking back at the headlines at Yahoo, several things were announced Jan 8 & 9, eg,

The announcement that WR Hambrecht was looking for hasnt happened yet...and it remains to be seen if the two companies are actually developing a new memory card standard. I have seen a ton of new handset specs leaked from Motorola over the last couple of weeks, and they have had either miniSD or SD/MMC external slots.

The one exception is the V1000 (W-CDMA) handset that is supposed to come out in 2005. The leaked specs include something called a TriFlash memory expansion slot. I dont know if that is a mistake in the specs or if this is actually something new. The handset is supposed to be out in the first half of 2005.

One thing is for sure, quite a few new handsets from Motorola are going to include some sort of external memory slot. It definitely seems like it will be a standard part of their high-end handsets by the end of the year.
