Bush did try to get UN approval. He even held off on the attack for some time trying to work out that approval... Reality check - US military continued to move into position as UN talks were going on. ...which was never forthcoming because France and Russia, both of whom had vetos on the SC, had too many financial interests in keeping Saddam in power. Or, they could see through the smoke and mirrors that was the "WMD THREAT!!!" US tried to put across as cassus belli. With hindsight, it does look like US administration's arguments of an imminent danger look rather false. So France, Germany, and Russia were right. Powell was wrong. IMO any President who said that -- who took the position that if the UN did not approve of a military action we would not take it -- would be committing treason Define "treason"?

He even held off on the attack for some time trying to work out that approval Wrong. He was waiting for the military to get into position. Once they were in position, he attacked. IMO any President who said that -- who took the position that if the UN did not approve of a military action we would not take it -- would be committing treason. That's a fairly radical viewpoint. Most people feel that we shouldn't offend the rest of the world unless we are being threatened. Why do you feel the need to post on the "Moderate Forum"? Tom
