A closer comparison would be to Israel's occupation of Lebanon, from where they were eventually forced to pull out. Western countries trying to "change the face of the Middle-East" is nothing new. It has always ended in failure for the occupying forces. Great Britain had already learnt that lesson. No wonder the anti-war protests in Britain are stronger than here. Unfortunately, the leadership over there is as clueless as the leadership over here, so we have British troops dying too, even though they ought to have known better.
