Ted, I would be glad to hear your interpretation.

There is a good reason why He'd speak to you. Certainly it wouldn't be just to make you rich and happy, would it? Nor would it be just so you can brag to your friends how good you are at Blackjack. That would seem like a pretty small god to me, more like a genie whom you can summon whenever you feel like.

Here's the bottom line: There's a greater purpose for it all. I believe if God told you how to beat the game of Blackjack, it's because He wants you to do something good with your knowledge. You are correct in saying that you shouldn't try and use God's name in calling the results of an election or your chances at Blackjack. The truth is that there isn't any good reason for you to do so, except for selfish reasons like those Pat Robertson is allegedly guilty of. Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling you selfish. I'm just saying that you know what to say or what not to say because you don't pretend to have a direct line to God.

Back to Robertson. I know why he's trying to say what he is saying, and it all revolves around God somehow rewarding Bush for his faith. I'm not sure God works that way, either, since I could point to another man of strong faith, Jimmy Carter, and how he wasn't rewarded with a 2nd term in office. But in any case, God is above partisanship and mere tit-for-tat rewards, and I don't think Pat Robertson correctly conveyed this notion. Instead, he comes across as another opportunistic televangelist, which is unwise to say the least.
