There really is no way to discuss such things.

You are immediately cast as either (1) "anti-semitic," or (2) "a tool of the zionists." There's no middle ground.

You just point out that every criticism you are making is also being made by Israeli citizens.

how we can criticize Israel without being considered anti-semitic.

I keep hoping one of them will give the answer rather than just pose the problem.

The answer is to have the argument delivered by someone who has not making anti-semitic statements also. Either in the same piece or in separate statements.

But this has turned into the same problem as we have when whites criticize black achievement. There is so much BG hatred built up that it just can't be separated.

You are asking people to divorce the emotional from the rational? Kholt, what ARE you thinking? It cannot happen, because people are probably not built in such a way to allow it to happen. So sorry to bring you this news...

Perhaps it's all part of a planned obsolescence program for the human species.

70% of neocons may be jews but 70% of american jews will vote for kerry. Most american jews do not like sharon. He makes them nervous because of what appears to be his evil demeanor. American Jews loved Rabin but have always been wary of likud leaders. American Jews are largely now against the war in iraq though initially they supported the war like most other americans.
So if others dont like sharon or israeli policy most jews will not believe that person to be anti-semetic. It is my belief that bush has been a great friend of Israel and that president kerry will be cozying up to arafat at some point in his administration but he will still get a majority of the jewish votes. Jews are liberals and Jews are nuts but they are fun to be with and they will always answer a question with an answer far afield as i just did. Mike

You might want to follow the link back to Bjorn Staerk's blog, because he has a long post where he attempts to untangle anti-Semitism vs. anti-Israelism vs. criticism of Israel.

A while back I posted an article on another thread that showed, based upon a recent genetic study supporting arguments for a 5000 year tradition of intermixing in the Mediterranean region, most Israeli's are genetically indistinguishable from non-Jews and Muslims native to the region. Since Arabs are also Semitic people, then for Israelis to be Anti-Palestinian is, for them, to be a nation of anti-Semites.

Ze'ev Boim, an Israeli Minister, asking rhetorically, "What is it about Islam as a whole and the Palestinians in particular? Is it some form of cultural deprivation? Is it some genetic defect? There is something that defies explanation in this continued murderousness." would be anti-Semitic and seemingly would provoke internal calls for him to be castigated. I'm sure he won't be.

If it is indeed a genetic defect, as Boim suggests, then it affects all of Israel as well, save the converts. Ironic.
