The word "neglect" implies that we have some sort of affirmative duty with regard to Haiti. We don't. Haiti was never a U.S. colony or territory, we owe them absolutely nothing.

Your answer is at the very heart of the problem, though you do not realize it.

Well, the problem is the unwashed masses float here to S. Fla. and we take them in. We THOUGHT we could give them a hand in their own country thus making it a place they would like to stay in. Didnt work. Now they have deforested much of their land for charcoal to cook with and floods are ruining the land for farming. Its a damn mess. Unless the American People are prepared to support nearly and ENTIRE NATION of undertrained, ill prepared for the modern world, people, (I hate to say this) but its time for TOUGH LOVE. We are just about the ONLY nation that never ruled Haiti, and all the ones that did have backed out. I say its time the UN show just how great they are!! jdn
