You will be surprised how much bureaucracy is involved to do that

Not surprised at all. I know people who've jumped those hoops. If you can't wait in line to get coverage for you and your child, you get what you deserve.

There are also private temporary medical cards and discount medical cards. You might have to pay a $200 deductible, but you have coverage. There's no excuse for a pregnant woman not to get prenatal care. There are clinics like Planned Parenthood that are very inexpensive as well.

You will be surprised how much bureaucracy is involved to do that, as states are attempting to cut down on Medicaid, which discourages many from attempting it.

I work with refugees everyday (as a volunteer). I see who gets Medicaid first-hand. The system is fast, responsive and easy. At the user level there is no bureaucracy. And being found not eligible for Medicaid does not mean you don't get medical care.

For those at or near the poverty level, not eligible for Medicaid, there is a free clinic in town.

Also, every hospital in America that receives federal money (most do) is required to provide emergency care to everyone regardless of ability to pay.

Many hospitals in poor areas are on the brink of bankruptcy, and have lost the ability to deliver adequate care. Easy facts to obtain on this- lots of news stories. Not as sexy as terrorism, but affect a lot more people.
