Please show me how a worker pays out $15k.

A worker making around $100K pays 7.65% for SS & Medicare and his employer pays the same. (Actually the 6.4% SS part is capped at almost $100K and the Medicare portion goes on forever.) Self-employed workers pay both the employee & the employer parts, but for all workers, this represents a difference between what they cost and what they receive.
