Ted, How can one have a good relationship with God when he is out murdering people?

Indeed. Like I said before, it's all about a relationship with the Father. You can decide for yourself whether someone who murders in the name of God really is acting with God's blessing or has that close of a relationship with God.

By the way, every sin has consequences. By no means can those who are saved by Christ continue to sin without suffering the consequences. Unfortunately, those consequences aren't limited to the sinner himself (or herself), which makes sin all the more tragic.

I am unclear why the death of JC has to be depicted with extreme brutality.

It's the punishment we all deserve for our sins. It's tough to swallow, especially for those who don't understand or accept Jesus' blood sacrifice for sins, but it's important to say the least.

To me, its bespeaks of human high drama when the real drama was JC's message to humanity.

Throughout the four Gospels, Jesus spoke repeatedly about his upcoming death on the cross and how he needed to go in order to save mankind from sins. There's no way to separate the cross from the rest of Jesus' message to humanity, because it's the center of it all.
