Oh, I know that there are a lot of theologians and academics who make their living debunking the historicity of the Gospels, who are weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth that Gibson didn't make a movie that debunked the Gospels according to their pet theories.

Not to worry, they get a lot of press. I've seen them being quoted and interviewed for various shows on PBS and BBC and CNN and so on, and in the news media for years. Recently, the theories about an alleged sexual relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene in the popular novel, "The Da Vince Code," got at least one hour long special, and a lot of shorter bits everywhere you turned.

I must have missed your dudgeon that anybody would think this was an accurate depiction of historical events.

As for Jews losing their faith - the only significant difference between Judaism and Christianity is that Christians believe that Yeshua, son of Miriam, of the House of David, is the Messiah, and Jews believe that the Messiah is not yet come.

Oh, and Christians believe that Christ brought a New Covenant from God, and that Christians are part of that New Covenant.
