There has to be a safety net for the elderly who worked hard all their lives, paid taxes, but either due to misfortune, bad health or both cannot support themselves. Would you prefer to let them starve to death or perhaps we need to build poor houses for them as in the past? These capitalist hard-hearted criticisms of any program that society implements to try to help the downtrodden is so Scrooge-like. I can imagine all the soc sec bashers sitting in their cold, empty mansions supping their gruel awaiting a visit from their friend Mr. Marley.
