..... I seem to recall the Soviets and the Chinese not getting at that time, and the Chinese were the godfathers of the N. Viet's and the Viet Cong.... The Soviets were spectators....

Sounds to me like you don't recall events too clearly. Both the USSR and the PRC aided North Vietnam.

The Soviets were spectators....

That is not true. Not even close. Where did you ever get that idea?

Let me illuminate your darkness...It may surprise you but I do have a little familiarity with the weapons used by the NVA and VC.

Soviet heavy equipment was used by the NVA such as tanks, 37mm anti-aircraft guns, various artillery pieces and heavy trucks. It came with Soviet advisors who went to the field with the equipment.

The NVA and VC Infantry units had the following Soviet arms: AK 47s, RPG rockets, RPD machine guns, SKS rifles, B-40 rockets, hand grenades, 82mm mortars, PPSH41 Sub machine guns, and Tokarov and Makorov pistols. They also had the Soviet 51 mm heavy machine gun and the Soviet 37 mm and 24mm anti-aircraft guns.
The sappers used mostly Soviet explosives.

Soviet PT 76 tanks led the attacks against Special Forces camps at Lang Vei and Ben Het. Soviet T-34, T-54 and T-55 tanks were used to attack S Vietnamese cities.

To be fair, I concur there were some Chinese arms too including the Chicom 56 rifle(copy of AK 47), the Chicom copy of the tokarov pistol, and the Chicom type 26 tripod mounted machine gun which was actually a copy of a German gun, and a Chinese copy of the Soviet T-54 tank called a T-59.

They also had an 81mm mortar and 75mm recoiless rifle that were (I think) made in N Vietnam.
Other E European and French weapons were also used.
Most of the weapons were Soviet and the foreign advisors I am familiar with were all Soviets.

If they were spectators, it was from front row seats between the 40 yard lines.
