I defer to your knowledge of the weapons of the war and I find that the Soviets were supplying through Haiphong harbor. However you say Soviet advisors came with the equipment and had seats between the 40 yard lines. That would suggest they also took a lot of casualties given the millions killed in the war. I don't ever recall reading of Soviet prisoners being taken nor of Soviet casualties. The link below says the Soviets stayed mostly in N. Vietnam as advisors in the anti-aircraft war. The link says 13 Soviet advisors were killed.
