One can have faith and not believe everything that is written. Is there nothing in the gospels that you have trouble with? Hell in the old testament they incorporated dietary laws. Is there something like that in the new testament that folks would have trouble with? Forget gibson for a second and look at the book. Just curious.
Also why is the philosophy of jesus not as important? You implied that about things like turn the other cheek and love thy neighbor. mike
