The link indicates where that number came from..... And if we had killed any in the South and found their bodies, I think we would have crowed about it....

Your logic loses me.
Your link also says there were three thousand Soviet troops there and lists lots of Soviet weaponry yet yesterday you were telling us there were none.
Today you are telling us because the link does not say something it is not true.

Much of what is at that link is not true and/or not accurate and/or incomplete...You need a new link.

As for your, "We would have crowed about it."
The Special Forces border camps along the Cambodian and Laotian borders coupled with SOG Recon and Hatchet Force Operations confronted these folks first and inflicted massive casualties on these advised units and their advisors.
In case you haven't noticed, our Special Forces units don't crow on their own, and reporters did not volunteer for SF missions.

If you want to learn the true facts about these matters I suggest reading the very accurate and detailed "Green Berets at War : U.S. Army Special Forces in Southeast Asia, 1956-1975" and "SOG". John Plaster and Shelby Stanton, the authors, write from extensive personal knowledge and experience, and detailed debriefings of the SF Operators who were on the missions.

I am mentioned by name in the first book, in the story about the Ben Het tank battle along the Laotian border...There now, you got some crowing afterall.
