Abelson reminds Greenspan that he may be knocking the deficits now, but he was sliming surpluses 4 years ago. What a doofus. Doesn't he think we can remember? Uh, remember what? <G> 2. Abelson quotes Archie on recommending El Paso, which looks like death on a stick. If it gets priced accordingly, I'll jump in, but don't think it's there yet. 3. Talking about the mess Ahhnold is exacerbating in California. Something had to be done. This wasn't it. 4. You have a better chance of hitting the lottery than riding with an air marshal on your plane. 5. Nice fluff piece on coal. 6. Goofy Nidec is profiled for its growth rate. Expect some tough love here in the near future. 7. A former Putnam money manager who has his own shop now. Loves the home builders. Did I mention tough love? 8. An editorial calling for the privatization and breakup of Fannie and Freddie. That cockles the warms of my heart. 9. Gasoline prices headin' to the moon, Alice. No let up in sight. 10. The good article is an interview with Peter Thiel, the manager of the Clarium Capital Hedge fund. Lousy name, but good ideas. His four themes: a. Deflation. He's buying 10 year bonds. b. Dollar has just BEGUN its slide. Another 50% down to go. Buy Swissies, Auks, Kangaroos, Euros and even Reals. Get out of the Greenscam Dollar. c. Energy shortage. Big duh, here. $50-60 a barrel in our future. He's buying Canadian oil sands and Russian oil. I would like to mention to him that there are also some good plays that are not scams and crooks. <G> d. Shorting stocks, especially the S&P 500 and The DAX. 3 out of 4 ain't bad. That's pretty much it. Read the Thiel article on the newsstand and then replace the rag in its slot.
