Of course, I understand why critics might see this film as "too violent," since for a while I too wondered why every inch of Jesus' body had to be laced with cuts and whipmarks. And then my wife pointed it out, that if you imagine every cut to be representative of one of my sins, then there's no way Jesus can have even one square inch of uninjured flesh. That's when it hit me, especially as I too often take my faith in Jesus for granted.

I am seeing it tonite.....with a faithful Catholic as well as lapsed one......should be interesting.

However, I don't agree with the concept that each lash mark represents someone's sin. I think if the torture and whipping were that brutal, and frankly, all we have are the words of his disciples who at times could be very unreliable [see Judas and Peter], then its more a reflection of the wrath and anger of the religious and pagan leaders of that time. The religion men......because JC threatened their position and the pagan/Roman leaders because he was unimpressed with their power.

To claim that this was the work of God is extremely disturbing since God is supposed to be a superior being. I just don't buy it. JC may have died for our sins but I believe how he died was the work of cruel and angry men who were obsessed with his death, not God.

In any case, I plan to eat lightly before the film. Violence doesn't usually get to me but if the commercials for the film are any indication, this one's over the top.

I'm glad you liked it.

Tenchusatsu, reportedly a worker from Clean Channel died 20 minutes prior to the end of the movie. A huge display of violence isn't healthy for people, if it unduly stresses their bodies.

Also, how it reportedly positions who killed Jesus could be an issue too. Last thing the world needs is for more children to accuse and harrass Jewish children.

I'm not going to see the movie.

Ten,

It's a movie. I'm sincerely glad that it renewed your faith.

The religious right is looking for meaning. It's a sign of the times. But they are adopting the conservative agenda because of issues like abortion. They seem to be ignoring issues that revolve around charity for your fellow man.

That is not in the tradition of the missionary, the folks that give their lives to support the people that are truly suffering, and the Christianity that I love. I've donated money to those folks, not because they are Christian, but because they do more good than anyone else. That's real.

I don't understand how you can be a true Christian and a neo-conservative at the same time. Those folks are not charity first, they are me first. What was Jesus about, from a political perspective? Was it tolerance and charity?

I'm just asking to you to think about it. No response required.

John

So what are you personally doing? Send these folks a few bucks. $10, $50, $100, $1000, what you can afford. They are Christians doing Christian work. They are not political, they are folks working in the worst place in the world because they have Jesus in their heart. These folks are real Christians.

Go for it. I'm pretty much agnostic, but I send these folks money. They walk the walk.

I saw it Wednesday night. I'm afraid it was way too Bloody for my taste. It also didn't develop whole the story of Christ very well, just the flogging, then left you hanging in the end. They should have converted the subtitles to English voice at some point early in the movie.
I'd give it no better than a C- on a good day.

I really don't know what all the Anti-Semetic hype was all about either.
