It's hard to appreciate the environment if you're not from here. People are born Democrats. You are taught at a young age to always vote for the Democrat, no matter what. After the Dukakis disaster, enough voters finally figured out that Repubs can manage money better than Dems, and we've elected three rep govs since. But every congressman and both senators are Dem. Kerry ran unopposed by a Repub last election. So believe it or not, a Libertarian Party candidate got 20% of the vote against him.
