CORRECTION:

haqihana was badly and sadly mistaken! Beyond a shadow of a doubt, he has a twisted mind which always causes him to demonize folks with whom he does not agree. Worse, he hallucinates about evil-doers lurking and skulking in every nook and cranny where there are none!

All I did was post a report which described a successful, albeit "dirty", US covert operation which scored big time against the Soviets.

Needless to say, there were many a tit-for-tat operation perpetrated by the US and the former Soviets on each other. Of course, in any war, foul is fair and fair is foul; and the law of the jungle always prevails --- kill or be killed!

What's so sarcastic about that? Evidently haqihana has gone somewhat plum loco (or "loca") on this one, eh?

As for his remark,

Communism was un-Godly, and guilty of much more evil in the world.

it is just one of his opinions --- an opinion not necessarily shared by many others.

But I know of folks who bemoan the fact that the US, with no check-rein opposition from the Soviet Communism, has now become, ever since the end of the Cold War, a monstrous juggernaut that is the very epitomy of: "All forms of power corrupt: absolute power corrupts absolutely."

I also know of folks that praise Communism for great good it has done for China: It has unified the people on the mainland and that country is now prosperous and is gaining worldwide attention and respect.

Hah! So much for haqihana's pompous and biased and wild imaginings!

IC,

The intent of my post here is not to irk anyone; it's just to present the perceptions of China on US violation of human rights. To those who firmly believe that the US is lily-white in its human rights record, is always righteous in all its policies and dealings with other countries, the views of the Chinese may come as a very bad joke or may simply be condemned and consigned to limbo.

To others, the Chinese perceptions may come as an eye-opener and as a breath of fresh air...................

China attacks US rights record

BEIJING - China yesterday published a scathing attack on the human rights situation in the United States, in retaliation against a similar report issued by Washington last week that accused Beijing of backsliding on its rights record.

Only days after slamming the US report as 'interference in its internal affairs', the State Council, China's Cabinet, countered with its own criticism.

Allegations of US atrocities in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan led the way.

'Since the US initiated the war on Iraq, 16,000 Iraqis have been killed, including 10,000 citizens,' the report said.

With a US$400 billion (S$684 billion) budget, America's defence spending is more than the rest of the world's combined, and it is the biggest seller of arms.

Rights violations were not restricted to the 364,000 US soldiers based in more than 130 countries, the report said, but also occurred at home where the US is one of the world's most violent places.

'The US leads the world in gun ownership, guns are everywhere and crimes involving guns are on the rise,' it said.

The report also blasted the US Patriot Act which empowers the government to violate the rights and freedoms of citizens, most notably minorities, 'in the name of national security and fighting terrorism'.

The report further slammed American democracy as the politics of the rich and cited the US$113 million spent by President George W. Bush's election campaign in 2000 and the projected US$200 million for this year's presidential poll.

It also blasted the US social welfare network and cited the growing numbers of poor and homeless people.

'The richest 1 per cent of the US have wealth that is equal to the 40 per cent of the poorest people in the country,' it said.

On Thursday, China expressed 'indignation' at the annual US State Department report which accused Beijing of letting its human rights record slip as arrests of democracy activists and extrajudicial killings continued. -- AFP

IC, It is true that evil can be found in every corner of the world. I hope you didn't think I meant otherwise. All of us that look deep enough, and are honest enough, know that there is a certain amount of evil lurking in every human heart. All should beware of that, and take steps to prevent any evil from manifesting itself.

Bari, a 60-ish American, has this to say about the
kids of today.

Kids Today:

(Kinda vividly correct n' funny article...)

Sitting here in front of my computer and wondering what my topic might be for Sunday's column I was gazing out to the street. In my limited view there were some youngsters playing; it brought some memories of "things past".

When I was a kid adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill both ways through year 'round blizzards carrying their younger siblings on their backs to their one-room schoolhouse where they maintained a straight-A average despite their full-time after-school job at the local textile mill where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep their family from starving to death!

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But....

Now that I've reached the ripe old age of sixty-something, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so f---in' easy!

I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet- if we wanted to know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves!

And there was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter with a pen!-- and then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the f---in' mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

And there were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to go to the record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or we had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and f--k it all up!

You want to hear about hardship?

You couldn't just download porn! You had to bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! It was either that or jack-off at the lingerie section of the JC Penney catalog!

Those were your options!

We didn't have fancy shit like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was, it could be your boss, your mom, a collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

And we didn't have any fancy Sony Play station videogames with high-resolution 3-D graphics! When it became 1982 we had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win, the game just kept getting harder and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy sat in front of you, you were screwed!

And sure, after the 60's we had cable television, but back then that was only like 20 channels and there was no onscreen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

And there was no Cartoon Network! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning... ...D'ya hear what the f--k I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK, you spoiled little bastards! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy You're spoiled, I swear to God! You guys wouldn't last five minutes back in 1982, forget back in the 40's.
