How quick the conspiracy theorists are to believe the word of an unpopular deposed leader. None of us know what really happened. My thinking is that it was more a case of Colin Powell spending 4 hours on the phone, indicating that the rebels were in position to take the capital, with loss of life including Aristide's, as very likely. Powell seems like someone who can be quite emphatic.

From the safety of Africa, Aristide wants to "save face" and says he was kidnapped. If that's the case, let him get on a commercial airliner and fly back to Haiti (detour by rail or car perhaps if the airports are closed.) If he has popular support, but for the US presence, then he should be allowed to return.

That word If figures prominantly in your rationales.

When we write about what actually happened and not what some one hoped would happen or gambled would happen we find that the bush-league has a very poor track record. The main problem is that the leader, Cheney, does not listen to a very wide range of options before he makes one of his rash decisions for George Jr. to rubberstamp. That's how he got Halliburton into so much asbestos problems.
