I don't see the direct correlation between the chips being created today and back in 2000.

What I intended to say was that the total dollars being spent on chips and capacity back in 2000 included so much waste and misdirected effort that it should not be compared to today's efforts. The dollars being spent today are being directed into much more appropriate endeavors and are being spent much more cautiously. Efficiencies have improved and (most) companies aren't in any hurry to make the same mistakes we've seen in the past.
