I am confident most priests are moral decent men. The Catholic church's mistake was not removing the bad apples when problems became known.

One monk remarked to me that another monk we were having discussions with had the spiritual maturity of an eight year old. It's true, I do pick sides. But use your own common sense, what kind of person would be attracted to a life of celibacy. Sure there's the religious guy, but then there's those who are running away from their own sexuality (gay) or dealing with their asexuality (most common, imo). You know, historically, priests have hardly been celibate, only in the last century or so, that's why we've seen a rise in the kooks in the ministry. Celibacy, historically has been a crazy ideal few were able to meet. How many popes have had children while being pope? Not a few. In fact, for the longest time Rome was widely reputed to have the best brothels in Europe. Any guesses as to the clientelle? I'm not certain, but perhaps that holds true even today. Who knows.
