I think you're being a bit naive about the order of battle.

While it is true that the U.S. Army is a bit over-extended, Air Force units are not in the least bit over-extended. So the 'tip of the spear' remains sharp. Furthermore, by the end of summer, when a panoply of carrier task forces will be out of repairs and back in a state of full preparedness, the Marines will also be well rested and fully capable of mounting new campaigns.

To the informed observer, it would seem that if the U.S. military were an aggressive imperialistic war machine, rather than a noble defender of the integrity of our territorial borders, it would clearly be ready for action by Labor Day.
