Libya has been persuaded to go the other direction. Iran has agreed to inspections to prove they are not going nuclear. We can and have stopped them (Russians ) from using nukes for 58 years. Mostly by fear of powerful retaliation, or in the case of Israel vs Iraq, by economic threat. <<< 4. the only way to be safe, is to conduct yourself so nobody wants to hurt you. >>>> This is certainly the toughest nut of all. In the past, learning to speak German or Japanese would have hurt a lot. Our Military saved us from that pain. The Al Queda and OBL want us to convert to the Muslim religion, or die ( which would probably hurt). But they do not promise to stop hurting us even if we did convert. But doing so would solve a lot of our present problems, since we would then have the same moral and ethical obligations to kill any people who do not agree with us, including our new-found Muslim friends. And in that event of conversion, I would say that if you think Cheney, Bush, and Rumsfeld are Hawks today, wait till you see them with a free hand. Therefore it would not enhance world peace or prevent wars. Only a dreamer would expect the Pope, the Hindus,or the Mormons to start chanting Muhammad's verses. Sig@itsanogo.com

It is in every individual's longterm self-interest, to habitually treat others well, because each of us is dependant on many others, and those Others will mostly reciprocate what we do to them. And: Live by the sword, die by the sword. And: Walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in everyone. Lots of good stuff in that post Jacob. Things that certainly can't be denied. But of course many of us will deny it. My guess is that despite the depth of your faith and its consistent intent and purpose, somewhere inside that heart of yours is a beaten down and repressed little OBL yearning to be free. <vbg> If you insist on living by this Golden Rule of yours, he'll clearly never get to "live by his sword." But at least he'll always have a chance to obtain his beloved martyrdom. <g> Or to put it another way... the earth we inhabit is not heaven. ...And we got tossed from the Garden of Eden so long ago that you've forgotten that it only had room for two. We've always had a God of War as well as a God of Love. As best I can tell we can't have one without the other. It's like being "clean." Meanwhile, back in reality......... You persuade (almost) everyone to simply drop their spearguns and let them sink into down into that deep water, lost forever. But a couple didn't. They band together. They tell you what you shall do to make them more comfortable. You have two choice: do it, or don't and be killed. Now you may be a nonviolent sort such as Gandhi and preach your nonviolence, but that is effective only against those with consciences, such as the British. How far do think Gandhi would have gotten against Hitler? In your Garden of Eden, what do you about those who insist on not just more but control of everything and build the means to get it? There really are valid reasons the world never even seriously considered going down your route.
