Carter was the first president ever born in a hospital. All it takes is one break in your genealogy where there are no surviving records and you have a dead end. You may not be able to trace your surname far back, but you might get further back with some of the maiden names.

According to my father, his father had traced the family tree of his wife, my paternal grandmother, back to Queen Mary of Scots. I never saw any documentation, just his word. The only name I remember is the maiden name of the grandmother in question: Bostwick. My grandfather died in 1967 and my father in 1960. I guess if it were true, then if enough people in the right places die soon, I could be the King of England and France. King Chas.... No thanks, I'll take a buyout, or hush money, instead. :)
