They were sent to capture weapons that don't exist

No. That is not the real reason.

Every day we stayed paying the ever-higher costs of a failed sanctions and containment program was a testimony to the weakness and cowardice of America. Every time we stood by and let Saddam flout the sanctions, starve his people while building palaces, pay millions in bribes to buy friends in Europe and throughout the Arab world, all the while blaming us & thumping his chest as the Great Arab Survivor and Defier of the Great Satan, we proclaimed American cowardice to the Arab world. We had the might, but here was proof we had no stomach for a fight. It was clearly a winning policy to proclaim yourself an enemy of America - all gain, no downside.

Last year we sent the message that Arab anti-American business as usual would no longer be tolerated, and btw, we DO have the stomach for a fight. The boys who are dying in Iraq now are paying the price of 20 years of retreat and gutlessless in the Middle East.

If we had fought then, they wouldn't have to die now - and in all likelihood, the 3000 dead of 9/11 would still be alive too. Al Qaeda's ideology was built on the fantasy of American cowardice and decadence, a fantasy born out of our weakness and inaction. This fantasy ideology drives our enemies throughout the Muslim world, and we won't have won until the believers in it have been disillisioned AND have something better to believe in.

On the WMDs I disagree. I think what they had were moved to Syria. I'm also fairly certain once the sanctions were lifted the programs would be going full tilt. Lots of pressure to lift the sanctions because they were killing millions of Iraqi children.

<<They were sent to create a democratic revolution and bring peace and harmony to a people who are consumed with hatred and whose fondest desire is to kill every man, woman and child in Israel.>>

You forgot every man, woman and child in the USA. If they can create a democratic country that is peaceful it will be one of the biggest steps forward that humanity has ever taken.

<<They were sent to hunt terrorists who are hiding in Pakistan. >>

They've nailed thousands of terrorists and are now hunting in Pakistan.
