Um. I misread your original statement. When "those that voted with him" apparently includes the great majority of the Republican party in Congress, I think the label "Kerry and those that voted with him" is pretty darn misleading. If you want to make "guilt by association" arguments, I imagine Kerry's been in the Senate long enough that he's "voted with" just about everybody there on something or other. Big whip.

I'd consider it somewhat unfortunate that Kerry voted with anything in Newt's "Contract on America", but up against W and his more-that-cozy ties with Enron types? Reach on.

tonto, I opposed this bill. One of the worst parts was the "Safe Harbor" portion, that allowed companies to over promise about the future (but pay no penalty).

In addition, Gingrich's Congress significantly cut the funding for SEC enforcement. Talk about doing the wrong thing at the wrong time!

I wish Kerry had voted against the act. And it is a fair criticism of him. Although almost all of the Republicans voted for it - except McCain and two others!

However, Kerry cast thousands of votes while in the Senate, and on balance, I agree with most of his votes (of the ones I've looked at - too many to ever review them all)!

And as the article says: Kerry's overall record on confronting other moneyed interests does appear to be strong.

Best to you!
