I don't know that it would be grounds for any unbelief? It was never an argument for the Truth Of Christianity or any other religion. Even if every Christian in the world had died (like the Hale-Bopp believers did) it would say nothing about the rationality or the Truth of their beliefs. Thousands of Jews were killed in the Spanish Inquisition. We don't know how much of a choice many of them may have had. Nevertheless, it would say nothing about the truth of Judaism. Argumentum ad populum is a fallacy. Muslims are killing themselves (and others) every day. Does it mean they will get 72 virgins? Does it matter whether one, ten, or 1000 kill themselves per day as to whether or not the virgins are there? No.
