I was thinking more of your point that nothing written about in the Bible happened--it was all borrowed or made up myth, with no historical basis for the events talked about. That, if I understand you, is a basis for not being able to distinguish between biblical myths and all the other myths/accounts about space ships, or hero/messiah figures born out of rock, or anything else. Since no distinctions can be made, we are simply faced with a smorgasbord of myth to choose from, one no better than the other. Johnson has some acquaintance with historical methodology, and even agrees that there is little corroborative evidence. But he does not seem to be deterred by the vast array of historical arguments posted on the web against Christianity. Christianity understands that its belief is necessarily tied to the historicity of its story, as I think Johnson would also say. No history, no Christianity. That is its significant distinctive, really. I am not talking about martyrdom as evidence, per se, but the historical side.
