The only reason for raising the gasoline taxes will be to pay for tax BREAKS for those who purchase efficient cleaner engines and who use cleaner fuels. That is a legitimate tax exchange, not a tax hike. Such a move would subsidize millions of new hybrid fuel cars/furnaces/machines and pay for infrastruacture to support them. California does the same thing with Low-Flush toilets and no-waste shower heads and that has resulted in huge savings of precious water supplies.

With Bush's high energy prices, the public is ready for action in efficiency, new fuels technology and getting ourselves off Arab oil so we don't have to keep fighting expensive wars over there. Do you know Bush has a tax break for buyers of huge guzzling SUV's? Ridiculous. When Bushies struck down McCain-Kerry's CAFE standards bill they really did our country a disservice. That is what we mean by kowtowing to corporate special interests.
