My position is that those terms
should have nothing to do with the
issue of taxation and that the political
rhetoric of the left employs those
terms to foster class warfare and to
garner votes among those who would be
unaffected by tax increases and who
would likely benefit from increased spending
on social programs.

i've been following your taxation "fairness" posts, m (which are great, btw)...

understand though, this is where we are...

(i'm quoting myself, quoting tyler and de tocqueville <g>)

Message 18043857

Alexander Tyler:
"A democracy can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury".

Alexis de Tocqueville:

"The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money."

the left tends to pander this issue better (they certainly have the experience<g>)....i only see this getting worse...

"fairness" and taxation as is couched in liberal leftist terms is just as you have articulated, a basis for class warfare and buying votes. (and holding the payees hostage)

if fairness were the goal (not political power and extortion) a flat tax or national sales tax would be implemented, obvious "the rich" would pay more whether as a function of gross income or purchases...

but of course that would eliminate the tool which is the "hook" of the vote pandering of the leftists...

Here is one attempt at relating "fairness" to the tax code:

"Fairness: Relating Taxes to Ability to Pay and to Economic Well-Being

The income tax system should relate a taxpayer’s tax liability to his or her ability to pay and to his or her economic well-being."

George W. Bush, Economic Report of the President

So it's your position that liberals use the term "fairness" with regard to taxation issues as a means of "class warfare"?

I'm not a big fan of the term "class", mph. It's quite unAmerican And while I appreciate your attempt, based on your considerable experience as an attorney, to turn my posts to you, in which I addressed your attitude toward those on the opposite side of the political fence, into a flamefest, I won't engage.

My point about your attitude, including my disappointment with you, stands. Your right wing friends can cheer you on all they want. I'm telling you, yet again, that reasonable minds disagree.

Just out of idle curiosity: are you under the impression that you're writing verse?

Right on!

The class warfare of the dems is an old, trite and tired tactic.....unfortunately too many of our fellow citizens buy into it.....
