Hi Jochen, I'm not calling for a 5% solution, just expecting it. And - at least in our case - I doubt that a Nuclear response would be needed to reach it. I doubt it's true, but if as you speculate we have more terrorists here, now, than in the rest of the world, it may well be that they will manage to commit an act which brings that solution about. If it's something less, hopefully it won't be beyond the ability of the police to cope with it. But the police won't have much leeway. If they can't squash it quickly, at minimum the government might be forced to put all or most people of Arab extraction, citizens or not, in some form of protective custody or deport them. Possibly others who simply have deep tans. <vbg> We definitely have too many guns in this country and more than our fair share of crazies who would not hesitate to use them. Many of the later are actually peace officers of one kind or another. The neocons in DC are perceived by many as quick triggered fascist idiots, but I can assure you they are milk toast compared to a substantial minority of their countrymen. Then too we have another substantial minority who would allow the government any power it might claim in order to get the promise of protection from the gun toters and terrorists. I expect we'd become the Mother of All Police States in very short order if America ever got half way to the level of insecurity Israel lives under. ...Employment would certainly no longer be a problem, our jails are already full. <Hoo><Hoo> We wouldn't nuke ourselves. But we could certainly get close enough to a fascist state such that the world would have a hard time seeing any difference. If that were to happen I expect the solution would wind up higher than 5% and it would include many non Arabs and Muslims. But that's all worse case horror story type stuff. I believe there are too many crazies in the MidEast and possibly Europe with inadequate means of getting here. One of them seems much more likely to do something to turn up the heat. It could be Israel itself. It could be any number of countries, groups or individuals. I don't know what will happen. All I know is that if we keep supporting Israel the crazies will keep coming. If we stop supporting Israel, it could easily leave both sides coming after us. In the end there just seem to be too many people everywhere willing to die to obtain something that others will die to retain. The "peace at all costs" people are at a disadvantage. I suspect that the Iraq invasion was, in part, intended to make a point as much as was the WTC attack. I myself can no longer imagine an American administration of any party suffering a radical Iran to possess nukes of any sort. What's John Kerry going to say in response to the question of what he would do if elected and the CIA comes in to give him evidence that Iran or Syria is now nuclear tipped? After all the flim flam about the UN, consultations, etc., I can't see his bottom line being any different than GB's. I don't know where the magic line is, but if it's crossed I would expect it to be a race between Israel and the U.S. to see who would eliminate them first. Unfortunately, if Iraq was a message it seems to have been ignored. 0\|0
