Dear Don & Searle,

As the intermediary between y'all (I started reading Searle's often-times brilliant "Dutch Central Bank Sale Announcement Imminent?" thread Subject 21259
a few months ago and found a refreshing oasis from the usual inanity of SI's chattering classes of asses) what I have to say to you is that what you have here is a classic "failure to communicate, in the modern style".

What is missing from our little chicken-scratchings on these displays is all the body language, tonal variances, inflection and the other subtleties of expression that this 2-D silent medium simply doesn't allow.

Y'all might consider using more emoticons. ;') Or, perhaps just let each other get used to t'other's style before jumping up and down with impetuous and invalid criticism.

As one who has read both of your oeuvres for a few months or longer now, I can say I find each of you to be among the most delightful and insightful contributors to this little cyber-foodfight we call SI, sigh.

Stop bickering. Else I'll start correcting each of you myself. And you both know how miserably meager my talents are in that realm.

Call a truce. Enjoy the show!

Cheerio:

PS: Searle, I generally absolutely loathe Monica jokes. Your's was the only one I felt amused by in the last couple of years. Unlike most of what passes for humor around SI, that one was a classic of the "truly tasteless" genre. :)

PPS: Don, don't be too hard on Searle about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. South Africans aren't really expected to have read those documents, eh?
