Just because some people will break a law if you try to stop them does not mean that you should stop trying.

If you stop trying, then the law breaking will increase.

Part of the problem with trying to stop illegal immigration now is that there is no punishment to to who try to enter illegally.

If you put someone in prison for trying to enter the country illegally, then fewer people would try. Particularly if the penalties were severe (e.g. 1 year for the first offense and 20 years for the second time).
