"In what universe does "less than 10 percent" equal "strong support for the campaign by the general public"?

Fortunately not the "universe" of the United States.

I like Powell a lot, but I don't believe people should always shy away from a difficult fight.

Not sure I understand what you are getting at. Remember the BUSH doctrine likely began in earnest AFTER the WTC bombing. At that moment in time I would say at LEAST 90% of the American people were for taking out Afghanistan if they didnt give us Bin Ladens head on a platter. Whether you agree with our President or not, HIS opinion, and thats the one that counts, is that you have to view terrorism in its TOTALITY. Afghanistan was ONE LINK, Iraq was another (have you forgotten Saddam (whether or not you agree he supported al queada) did support terrorists. He gave a FAMILY BOUNTY to all human bombers of about 25k USA $$ which is a huge sum in the ME. Bush also and rightly so viewed IRAN as a terrorist country as well as Syria. I believe we have not taken out Iran cause he believes there IS a groundswell of people within that country who will handle the case once its shown how well Iraq will turn out, frankly I have no idea why we didnt take out Syria while we were there. I would have supported it as the right thing to do. jdn
