Ten,

re: Instating the draft just to force people to "share the burden" is one of the most revolting ideas I have ever seen. While we're at it, why not force some people to become police officers or firefighters? How about forcing some to be city garbage collectors, or day care workers? After all, we all need to share in the burden of keeping America beautiful, or taking care of our children, don't we?

Then you have a problem with American history.

Defending the country is a common cause, it's not quite as trivial as garbage collection or even fire fighting, as you seem to make it. It's part and parcel of being a citizen.

Maybe it's not in your makeup to risk your life for your country, but that's our history, everyday common folks, poor and sometimes rich, fighting to defend our democracy.

That may be "revolting" to you, but some folks take that tradition, and their families involuntary sacrifice very seriously.

Enjoy your life man, but don't forget you owe it to a bunch of draftees.

John
