the "closing door" could be someone entering or leaving from your buddy list on aol or AIM or other IM service. that happened to me, drove me crazy till i figured it out. larry

It's a long shot, but if you have the help wizard turned on in Excel and save a file, it makes a sound like a closing door.

I would guess that's it's an ad blocker or popup blocker notifying you that it has blocked something. Look around in options or preferences in those type programs for sounds. You might also check the control panel/sounds for any sounds associated to these type programs.
