I will watch for Kerry to proclaim his free trade stance in Detroit. Perhaps the biggest point here is the characteristic attempt to be on both sides of the issue. Actually - up until it became politically expedient Kerry was for free trade.

The offshore tax problem is going to be hard to fix though. Companies like Pfizer can open R&D facilities in Ireland and pay no tax. Pfizer can keep all the money in Ireland and bring no money home which is a $$ drain. We can't really force companies to pay US taxes on products they build in ireland and sell in ireland. A very tough problem.
