I don't think this is a chicken or egg thing. Business leadership bears 90% of the responsible for loss of employee loyalty. It has to be a two way street.

The sense of unity evaporated before my friend was able to mentally adjust to the fact. As employees came into the firm, they began to act only for themselves, without taking interest in maintaining the de facto alliances that helped protect everyone's shared interests.
