I fail to understand what the beef is about.

Some people think that the decision of the Spaniards may just have cost us the war on terror, that it will do irreparable harm to the Spaniards and to the rest of us. That makes them disappointed and angry and afraid. That's what the beef is about. Whether one agrees with that assessment or not, I don't think it's hard to understand.

the spanish people have voted. label it whichever way, the facts say that it was a democratic election, with a democratic outcome.

The beef is a about the message the Spanish sent to Al Qaeda with their democratic election: "We give up. You want us out of Iraq? We're out. Please don't bomb us again."

Nothing their PM-elect has said about definitely pulling Spanish peace-keepers out of the "disaster" of Iraq, has contradicted the election's message of appeasement.

Well, if you've read all the posts on this topic on this thread, including my posts to you, and you still don't get it, what more can I say?

Let me ask you this. Do you have any idea why Westerners revile Neville Chamberlain?

If not, I simply give up.

When a family member is kidnapped and held hostage for a ransom, it's human nature to want to give the hostage-taker the ransom, in hopes that they will actually release the family member unharmed. I will assume that you think this is wise, unless you point out to me that you don't believe this.
