Didn't matter that LBJ was a liberal or a conservative (actually, he was a mixture of both). LBJ was probably quite surprised to learn the enormous US military couldn't win that war. He would not have waged it as long as Nixon did.

Remember that Kerry lived in Massachusetts. Throughout 1972 until the war ended, I was very active with Massachusetts VVAW. Kerry never attended any VVAW meetings, gatherings or events of the Massachusetts chapter from that year on. In fact, he was pretty much persona non grata.

Kerry, around that period, was setting the table for his own career in elective politics. VVAW members around that time didn't like him because it was commonly thought he had previously been using the organization to advance his political aspirations. We viewed VVAW as a grassroots organization led by no one except the members themselves and Kerry, in effect, was 'stealing' the press.

Indeed, Kerry did woo the press. And the press, when it referred to him, always made his involvement in VVAW as a focus point. So it's not surprising at all that the press would continue to describe him as a member, when he was not.

Now, Lazarus, do you really think Karl Rove would politically describe this situation accurately or honestly? On this issue, if you wish to champion the side of truth then you're going to have to believe me--and not the subtle slander campaign as perpetrated by the Bush tacticians.

FACT: Kerry was not part of VVAW from 1972 and on.
